The North East Students’ Group of Janki Devi Memorial College of Delhi University successfully organised their first North East Festival “PANORAMA” on Friday, 12th October, 2018 in the college auditorium.
The event was graced by our chief guest, Shri Hibu Tamang (IPS) Additional Commissioner of Police, (Security and head of Special Police Unit For North East Region (SPUNER) Delhi Police) and inaugurated by our esteemed Principal Dr Swati Pal and teacher convenors – Ms Bijoyta and Ms Debahuti. The festival began with various cultural folk performances like Mizo Dance, Arunachali dance, Manipuri dance as well as a fashion walk showcasing the various ethnic dresses of all the NE states.
One of the major highlights was panel discussion on a crucial theme- “Rethinking Youth: For a Shared future In North East” which was moderated by Mr.Dennis Lallienzuol, Youth Member, UNMCY. Our esteemed panelists were Ms. Ngurang Reena, Activist and Research Scholar, JNU and Ms. Nzanmongi Patton, Writer and Assistant Professor, Gargi College, DU. The discussion enlightened the students as to how the youth today had immense potential to bring about a change in the future of North East.
The last session of the festival was Talent Hunt whereby participants from 20 colleges all across the university showcased their folklore through various Group/Solo dance and songs. It was judged by our prestigious judges Dr. Lungthuiyang Raimei and Ms Debahuti Brahmachari.
One of the major attractions were the food stalls put up with north eastern delicacies. The festival was a huge success, whereby the motive of the group to provide a platform for dialogue and showcasing the inherent talents amongst the students belonging to the various NE states was fulfilled.
