It is a new year and that brings with it the unshakable ‘fest fever’! Every College of Delhi University is get-set-fest this time of the year. You just cannot keep away from the energy and cheer of it.
The Daulat Ram College fest, Manjari is one of the famed fests of the university. It features treasure hunt, dance competition, fashion choreography and various other events. The drama society fest, ‘Adakari’ usually takes place on the fest days itself. The dramatics societies of various colleges perform in front of the cafeteria of the college and it is indeed an interesting sight. One can actually taste the excitement flowing in the air even weeks before the fest.
The preparations have started and the committees have been divided. The DRC college union is geared up with plans and ideas to make this year’s fest the best. Work to bring in the sponsors has initiated and hopes are up to pool good capital this year. The volunteers are bubbling with anticipation and ready to devote high amount of energies in the jobs.
As for the students’ expectations, we can say that sky is the limit. Discussions can be heard all over campus over fest preparations and anticipations.
“I hope to witness a classy crowd! I want blaring music and mouthwatering food. Its gonna be so much fun!” says Shradha Srivastava a 1st year English (Hons.) student. Most of the excitement can be seen in the freshers of the college. They just can’t wait to ‘have so much fun’ in the college’s main attraction of the year. Although second year students are not that giddy and bubbly about it, they hope to spend great time in the fest. Third year students are excited to go to the last fun filled fest of their college life. They intend to cherish every bit of it. Last year’s expectations were not met due to the sudden rain but nonetheless students did take part and enjoyed.
“I’m hoping to watch a fantastic artist perform in the fest.” says Sarina Pantha (1st year Bcom Honours student). Last year Nikhil D’souza, singer of Mere Bina Mai and many other songs, was invited. This year students expect a more famous artist.
The college is going to be decorated lavishly, even on the outside. This year a flash mob is going to take place, most probably on the footpath outside the college and it is going to support a social cause. Students in big numbers have enlisted themselves to be a part of it. Rumour has it the flash mob is going to be a major hit. Last year’s flash mob couldn’t happen but this year students are not going to let anything ruin their plans. Many activities and events are in store for the students of Delhi University this year. Manjari is to be held on 27th and 28th of February and it has got the college ringing with cheer!
