The Literary Fest of Janki Devi Memorial College took place on 19th September, 2014, with utmost zeal and active participation by the students. It turned out to be a one of a kind event which encouraged the writing and intellectual prowess of the students. The Principal of the student Dr. Indu Anand and the English Association of Janki Devi played an active role in the successful completion of the literary festival.
The event commenced at 10am with a talk by Dr. Rich Rice, who was given a token of gratitude by the English Association. Dr. Rich Rice, Associate Professor University of Texas, USA, added glitter to the gleam with a talk on “Multimodal Composing in and beyond the Academy”. He talked about the need to write for a wider audience in order to have wide reach of your work. He also discussed various issues to keep in mind when one is writing. He stressed upon the necessity to do brainstorming before writing anything. Moreover, he encouraged the students to share their writing with other writers whenever they feel stuck at any point. The students with immense ardor participated in interactive session at the end, making the talk a good initiation point of the event.
The talk was further pursued by “Atul Krishna Binodini Devi Creative Writing Competition”. The topic for the competition was “Violence”. The genre of the competition was Autobiographical Writing in which students were asked to write a piece on the meaning and influence of violence on one’s life. The atmosphere of the event was replete with inventive ideas. The Winners of the event were IP College, Janki Devi, JMC and Bharti College holding 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Consolation positions, respectively.
The next event was “Quizzard”, Literary Quiz which tested the knowledge of Literature enthusiasts. The quiz consisted of preliminary and secondary round. The preliminary round was the elimination round wherein every team was given a set of question to be answered in a limited amount of time. Out of 13 teams, 7 made it to the next round- Ramjas College, Hindu College, SGND Khalsa College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Miranda House, Zakhir Hussain (Evening) and Rajdhani College. The audiences whole heartedly participate in the event and were duly rewarded with each correct answer. Ramjas College, Miranda House and Hindu College bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.
The much awaited event “Perfomatix”, the enactment competition took place at the end. Participants were given a quote at the time of registration and they had to create and enact a scene based on the quote. The competition was won by the students of Janki Devi Memorial College. The Best Actor Award was given to a participant from SGND Khalsa College. The event was a whammy treat for the audience who enjoyed each act to the core.
The event’s venue was brimming with participants and the optimistic outlook made the event nothing short of a success. The determination and hard work of the English Association and the student volunteers turned out to be a big contributing key towards attaining a successful event.
