To understand Literature, you don’t have to be the next Shakespeare; rather you just have to be simply YOU. Your understanding depends on what you think and not on what you are.

The English Department of Janki Devi Memorial College is elated to organize LITOPIA 2014 – a Literary Festival on Friday, 19th September 2014. This will give you a chance to exhibit your talent with words as well as with actions!!! We welcome all creative enthusiasts and quiz whizzes to be a part of this exciting event and add glitter to the gleam with your flair. The following is the list of all the events that are going to be organized by the college:

  • Talk by Dr. Rich Rice, Associate Professor, University of Texas Technology, USA on ‘Multimodal Composing in and Beyond the Academy’ – 10a.m to 11a.m (Seminar Room)
  • Atul Krishna Binodini Devi Creative Writing Competition in English – 11a.m to 12noon The genre is Autobiographical Writing and the theme will be given on the spot. There is no limit to the number of participants, so put on your thinking caps and participate in this one of a kind competition. The 1st Prize is a Rolling Trophy with a cash prize of Rs.2500, while the 2nd and 3rd prizes are cash awards of Rs. 1500 and Rs. 1000, respectively. Moreover, two consolation prizes will be given of Rs. 500 each.

The prize distribution ceremony for this event will be held on Wednesday, 24th September, 2014.

  • Quizzards –Literary Quiz (12:15pm to 01:45 pm) (Seminar Room) Was it Dickens or Marlowe? Who could have thought that literature could be this tricky! Test your knowledge of literature, but mind you – this one is hard to crack.

The venue of this event will be the Seminar Room. One team of two members per college is allowed to participate. The prizes to the winners are as follows- 1st Prize – Rs.1000 2nd Prize – Rs.750 3rd Prize – Rs.500

  • Performatix (2pm to 3pm) (Seminar Room) Shakespeare, Congreve, Wilde, Ibsen, Brecht and Dattani – next name on the list could be yours! Join us with your King’s Men to create and enact an original scene around a quote.

The participants will be required to pick their quote at the time of registration itself. One team of maximum seven members per college is allowed to participate. Duration: 5+1 minutes Language: English, Hindi or Bilingual Props and costumes are not mandatory and can be created by the team on the spot as well. The original play or speaker need not be identified.

Prizes to be awarded to the winners are as follows-
1st Prize – Rs. 1500
2nd Prize – Rs. 1000
3rd Prize – Rs.750

NOTE:  Registration timings for all the events are from 9am to 10am. Registration for all events and picking of quote for Performatix closes at 10am.

Students must carry their college’s identity cards.
