Janki Devi Memorial College (JDMC) recently held its Student’s Union Election for the academic year 2015-16. The Elected Union has four posts- President, Vice President, General Secretary and Treasurer. Whereas the extended union has 6 posts; Discipline Head, Cultural Head, Media Head, Sponsorship Head, Refreshment and Cleanliness Heads. Applications were available for various posts from 4th of August, 2015 and the last date for submission of the applications was 6th of August, 2015.

The candidates who stood for the post of Elected Union went through a strict interview after which 2 candidates for each post were selected and went through a series of confrontation and enthusiastic campaigning. Students came out in large numbers to vote on 11th of August,2015 and the election results were declared the same day around 4.00pm– Neelima Sharma as President, Simran Gupta as Vice President, Himani Goyal as General Secretary, Vamika Bansal as Treasurer.

Neelima Sharma, the President said “It wouldn’t have been possible without our Principal, Dr. Indu Anand, who has been very supportive, and our Staff Advisors Ms. Rajani Bala Anuragi and Ms. Sanjukta Naskar. It’s not my victory alone, it’s the students who have won as they are the real decision makers. I’ll not let them down.” This year the election was quite different from the previous years as Neelima Sharma has been the only President who won with a margin of 800 votes.

The interviews for the extended union were held on 12th of August, 2015. The results were declared the same day around 3.00pm-

Discipline Head- Dolly Maini

Cultural Head- Prateeksha Pathak and Tarab Tarique

Media Head- Zofishan Kokab Naqvi

Sponsorship Head- Ambalika Rai

Refreshment Head- Srishti Chadda and Harnoor Sethi

Cleanliness Head- Niharika Kumar

The Elected and Extend Union together came up and took the oath on 14th of August, 2015 before the Principal, Dr. Indu Anand. She seemed delighted by the newly formed Student’s Union and wished them all the best.
