The application process at Delhi University is over for FYUP. This year the university has received over 2.7 lakh applications with maximum applicants from Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. This time 52,001 students from Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal aspire to be in DU. The University has only 54,000 seats to offer to the students which is very less as compared to the number of applications. Last year the university received 254,339 applications.
This year the most demanding course in the Delhi University is English honours with 71,359 students applying for just 4,362 seats for the course. Last year the ruling courses at Delhi University were Commerce and Economics. The second most popular course is mathematics for which the university has received67,636 applications under the FYUP. It seems that this time students are less inclined towards commerce as there is a fall in number of the applications for the course, last year the university received 59,978 applications but this year the number has dwindled to 50,345. In the science side chemistry honours seems to be the first choice of students aspiring to enter DU. The course has received 64,951 applications followed by physics honours for which 60,956 students have applied.
There is no specific reason behind the sudden increase in the number of applications for English. However the removal of entrance test for English can be viewed as a reason which is encouraging students to apply for the course. English has always been a good course but many students did not use to apply for it due to entrance.
This year the University has introduced B.Tech in Forensic Science which has received a favorable response. It has received 35,066 applications.  Interestingly the course is by now being offered by only one college i.e. SGTB Khalsa but the officials at DU have confirmed that more colleges may soon follow.
The first cut-off of Delhi University will be released on 24th June 2014. All the best.
