When college starts every student is surrounded by a lot questions, doubts and well a major amount of excitement. There are certain things about this new, upcoming adventure that nobody tells you about, mainly because these come to you as you explore the new horizon. But, an insight into these experiences always acts as a catalyst to a better journey through the first year of college.
RE-EVALUATE YOUR GOALS AND INTERESTS.
At the beginning of college life, everyone feels pressured to have a long-term plan, pick a major and think about a career. But, as your freshman year comes to an end you realize that you don’t need to bother with all that for a little more time. And, you end up relaxing and adapting to the general college routine. By the second half of the year, you become comfortable with this routine. But, before the year is over, be sure to take some time out to re-evaluate possible majors, different interesting classes and so on. It is totally fine to not come to a final decision and great to explore different opportunities, but you wouldn’t want to wake up at the end of your college life with no idea about what you are doing.
EXPLORE NEARBY FOOD JOINTS.
As you enter college, you enter a new life and an entirely new food life. In college, you usually end up hearing about a new place with great food, every day and the giant foodie inside you craves for all that he could take in. So, take time out of the busy schedule and visit all the places your seniors tell you about and also discover new ones. It is always great to experiment with new food, be it a street food joint or a high-end restaurant, because one of these will always come to your rescue.
ORGANIZE AN EVENT
Events are an integral part of college life and as much as we enjoy attending them, organizing one is much more fun. So, take an initiative and plan out and organize an event in your college. It can be anything from a fair to a concert. Just gather a team of interested people, make a plan and start off.
JOIN A CLUB OR A SOCIETY.
Each student has one or maybe more, extra-curricular interests and these are the activities which give an energising touch to the otherwise academically full college life. Each college has a number of clubs and societies maintained by students alone and these offer a platform to people with similar interests and talents to meet each other and showcase their talents at different levels. So, gather information about the existing clubs or societies of your interest and join them as soon as you enter college, because these will make your college life all the more happening. And, if a society of your interest does not exist, even better, start one!
VOLUNTEER ABROAD AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
As we grow up we talk about the wrongs in society and about how things change. At this age, a person is at his best to make a difference and get their ideas known. So, before your freshman year gets over, volunteer abroad with AIESEC, be a global citizen and create an impact by working on a developmental project. Be a part of an internship that will leave you with an experience like never before by making you an international leader. Volunteer for an experience that offers an opportunity to work on a social project and develop, both personally and professionally. Get exposed to a multi-cultural arena, while it adds to your CV an international touch. You will be amazed by the diversity of the members in your group and will have an entirely different, once in a life time experience exploring a new country while you get a high quality, cross-culture international adventure through the social projects. So, discover yourself amidst different cultures and discover and impact the world while you develop as a citizen of the world.
